Acting Principals Message (1981)
The 1981 school year began with a scene of apparent
chaos - buildings were not yet complete, but students and staff,
many new to the school, worked busily while workmen toiled around
them. Gradually order emerged from the chaos. Buildings were completed;
students were able to find themselves and settle into many purposeful
and educationally worthwhile activities; camps and excursions
were held; many sports teams were formed and healthy competition
developed. Eventually we were able to use our own Craft facilities,
thus avoiding the time consuming trips to Mitchell Park to whom
we are indebted for their generosity in our use of their facilities.
It has been pleasing not only for me, but also for
the many visitors to see students enjoying themselves while at
work - the atmosphere is a happy one.
The wide range of activities, in addition to the
essential curriculum, which students have been able to take part
in and enjoy has been done much to broaden the educational experiences
of all students.
There is no doubt that the person responsible for
setting up a pleasant and caring working environment was Terry
Slaughter, and it was a sad time for the school when he was unable
to be with us through illness. His death at such a early age has
robbed the school of a fine Principal, but he leaves behind an
atmosphere which will carry this school forward in the years to
come.
In many ways my task of following in Terry Slaughter's
footsteps has been made easier by the qualities he has given to
Reynella East High School, and I am very much in his debt for
this.
I would like to express my appreciation to all members
of the school, staff, students and parent bodies, for all the
tasks undertaken so willingly during the year, far too numerous
to mention here.
May I wish everyone the compliments of the season,
a happy and safe holiday, to return to the many new challenges
1982 will bring.
Geoff Hamilton,
Acting Principal
