Acting Principals Message (1980)
A new high school being accommodated in a primary
school to some conjures up thoughts of educational and social
disadvantage, but to the contrary, it has become obvious that
the benefit gained by the 66 foundation students of Reynella East
High School has been immeasurable. Small classes, very energetic
and capable staff, and a compact learning environment have enabled
our students to begin high school in a very special way. I doubt
if many students have ever had the unique opportunities afforded
to them that those at Reynella East have enjoyed. Beside the educational
benefit of such a situation, the social development and inter-personal
relationship skills that have developed have been excellent. There
have, of course, been difficulties, and compromises have been
inevitable, but such problems have clearly helped in bringing
the school together as a unit, and in setting important attitudes
for the future. 1981 will provide us with equally challenging
situations, with more students, more staff and the progressive
occupation of new and exciting facilities.
I would like to extend my personal thanks to the
staff who have so ably assisted me this term, and to the student
body for being so friendly and co-operative. 1980 had certainly
been a unique year, but for those of us who have experienced it,
as either student, parent or teacher, I am confident that it has
been a most favourable, rewarding and memorable one.
R. A. Heath,
Acting Principal
